Short bio

Bogdan Murarașu has been a faculty member at the Department of Money and Banking within the Faculty of Finance and Banking since 2004. He graduated from the same faculty, specializing in Finance and Banking, followed by a Master’s program in Finance and Banking (DOFIN), with a focus on monetary economics. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Finance for his thesis entitled “Dynamics of Macroeconomic Transmission Mechanisms in Romania in Light of European Union Integration”, under the supervision of Professor Moisă Altăr. Subsequently, he participated in a postdoctoral research project titled “The Dynamics of the Accommodation Mechanisms of External Shocks in the Context of the Convergence Process of New EU Member States”, funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Romanian State Budget. Currently, Bogdan Murarașu teaches courses such as Modeling of Financial and Monetary Decision, Financial Engineering (both at the undergraduate level), and Time Series Econometrics (at the master’s level). His research interests focus on monetary macroeconomics, macroeconomic forecasting, monetary and fiscal policies, macroeconomic crises, nonlinear econometric models, and financial markets. These areas of interest have been reflected in numerous articles published in internationally renowned journals, including: “Assessing Fiscal Multipliers in Times of Crisis: Evidence from Selected CEE Countries” (Empirical Economics, Vol. 65, No. 4, 2023); “A Sectoral Assessment of the Typology of Economic Crises in Selected Central and Eastern European Economies” (Cogent Economics & Finance, Vol. 13, No. 1, 2025); “Quantifying the Probability of a Recession in Selected Central and Eastern European Countries” (Economic Research, Vol. 36, No. 1, 2023); “External Shocks Pass-Through into Selected Central and Eastern European Countries” (Technological and Economic Development of Economy, Vol. 28, No. 6); “Fiscal and Monetary Policy Interactions in a DSGE Model for the Romanian Economy” (Romanian Journal of Economic Forecasting, Vol. 24, No. 2, 2021); “The Drivers of Inflation in a Small Open European Economy: the case of Romania”, (International Journal of Trade, Economics and Finance, Vol. 9, (2), 2018; “Output Spillovers from Trade and Financial Linkages in Central and Eastern European Countries: A Panel Analysis” (The Review of Finance and Banking, Vol. 6, No. 2, 2014), as well as other scientific articles. Dr. Murarașu has participated in numerous national and international workshops and conferences, including the “Current Economic Policy Challenges in CESEE” (4th CESEEnet Research Workshop, Oesterreichische Nationalbank, Vienna, Austria, March 25-27, 2019) and the “Trade Openness and Output Comovement in EU Emerging Countries: A Panel Data Approach” (23rd International Business Information Management Association Conference on Visio 2020: Sustainable Growth, Economic Development, and Global Competitiveness, Valencia, Spain, May 13-14, 2014). He has also contributed to several research projects at the institutional, national, and international levels, both as a research expert and as a team leader for two national projects. In addition, Dr. Murarașu has specialized through professional development courses organized by prestigious international institutions, such as: “Economic Modelling and Forecasting” (2018, Bank of England, Centre for Central Banking Studies, London, UK), “Use of DSGE Models in Policy-Making Process” (2016, IMF Institute, Washington, USA), “Applied Bayesian Econometrics for Central Bankers” (2014, Bank of England, London, UK), “Inflation Forecasting and Monetary Policy” (2010, Study Center Gerzensee and Swiss National Bank, Gerzensee, Switzerland), and “Modern Monetary Economics” (2009, IMF Institute, Washington, USA). Dr. Murarașu is a member of the Centre for Advanced Research in Finance and Banking (CARFIB), the Romanian Faculties Association (AFER), and serves as a reviewer for specialized scientific journals, including The Review of Finance and Banking and Eastern European Economics. He is also the head of the Macroeconomic Forecasting Models Division (MFMD) at the National Bank of Romania (NBR), where he has been employed since 2007. Over the course of his career at NBR, he has held several positions, from economist to senior economist, and currently leads the MFMD within the Macroeconomic Modeling and Forecasting Directorate, which is responsible for producing macroeconomic forecasts that underpin monetary policy decisions made by the NBR’s Board of Governors. The MFMD also conducts macroeconomic and microeconomic analyses, as well as research activities resulting in study papers and research articles. An example of such work is the study “On the Exchange Rate Pass-Through in Romania” (Occasional Papers, no. 18, 2015, National Bank of Romania, ISSN 1584-0883). Dr. Murarașu possesses extensive theoretical and practical expertise in quantitative analysis and forecasting, particularly at the macroeconomic level, utilizing econometric programs such as EViews, Matlab, Stata, and the Ox platform.
